Bridal Bouquets
Who, where, what, when and why
In my teens and twenties, I was fortunate to be hired by a Lindsay florist whose work was absolutely legendary. Every weekend as I helped with weddings, I said
“these are the flowers I want when I get married.”
Every wedding she worked on was stunning.
While I didn’t go on to become a florist - journalism and writing is my other passion - I never lost my love for working with flowers. My flowerbeds are for cutting and arranging in vases to take to my friends. I helped family and friends with their wedding flowers, both fresh flowers and artificial. At the time, people would comment that I should be ‘doing this’.
It was the prospect of empty-nesting that made it happen. I knew I needed to keep busy despite my full-time work. Fortunately I don’t love cooking, because my dining room table became my workspace. I spend evenings and weekends gathering the most beautiful, lifelike artificial flowers and greens into collections. I can wire away and tape in front of the TV with my husband. Sure, I’m running out of space in my basement, but if nobody gets hurt, it’s not a problem, right?
When it was time to name my business, my husband suggested ‘Beaucoup Bouquets’, which I admit, is cute. But how would people know that I operate in the Kawartha Lakes? So, with incredible encouragement from my three kids (all of whom have flowers in their old bedrooms) and my dearest friends, I launched Kawartha Lakes Bridal Bouquets. My spare time is spent doing something I love to help people achieve the day of their dreams within budget borders.
